BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County Health was awarded a Healthcare for the Homeless/Farmworkers Health (HCF/FH) grant from the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The HCH/FH grant funds San Mateo Medical Center's (SMMC) ongoing HCH/FH program, providing primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care to the homeless population.

In September 2021, Sonrisas Dental Health Inc. (Sonrisas) and SMMC agreed to provide dental health services to homeless and farmworker individuals in the County for the term of September 1, 2021, through April 30, 2022, in an amount not to exceed $65,000 as part of an HRSA grant. The agreement has been amended multiple times, most recently to extend the term through December 31, 2023, and increase the amount to the amount to at most $246,220.

DISCUSSION:
This amendment will enable Sonrisas to continue providing these much-needed dental services. Extending this agreement allows the services to continue through the HCH/FH Request for Proposals planning process for contracts to begin in January 2025. In addition, as this agreement is intended to provide dental services for farmworkers not covered by MediCal/DentaCal, and with MediCal coverage for immigrants ages 26 to 60 beginning in January 2024, this amendment wil...
