BACKGROUND:
Since 2001, the San Mateo County Area Office of Emergency Services has applied for and received funding from the State Homeland Security Grant Program.

The State Homeland Security Grant Program is a core assistance program that provides funds to build capabilities at the state and local levels and to implement the goals and objectives included in the state preparedness report based on identified threats and hazards.

The FY 2018 State Homeland Security Program funds will be used to prevent terrorism and to prepare for threats and hazards that pose a risk to the security of the region and the nation.

DISCUSSION:
Changes in local, state, national, and international conditions have precipitated the need for reviewing, updating, and improving current preparedness, response, and recovery plans and procedures.
