Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Waste Repurposing International, Inc., a Wyoming corporation, d/b/a Smarter Sorting to provide a technological sorting solution to process household hazardous waste for product reuse for the term of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2021, in an amount not to exceed $150,000.

BACKGROUND:
Environmental Health's (EH) Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program was formally established in 1992, after passage of AB939, the California Integrated Waste Management Act. This State law requires local jurisdictions, such as the County, to manage household hazardous waste programs.
EH's HHW Program provides opportunities for residents to safely reuse household hazardous products through the free Product Give Away Program.
The HHW Program operates a Product Give Away Reuse facility at the County's Pine Street campus.
In operating its HHW Program, EH has recognized HHW's need of a technological solution for the Product Reuse Give Away Program to increase the volume of materials being reused and expand the clientele accepting materials.
In March 2018, EH conducted a Request for Proposals (RFP) to facilitate product reuse. Waste Repurposing International, Inc., a Wyoming corporation, d/b/a Smarter Sorting (Smarter Sorting) met all the requirements of the RFP process and was chosen based on its ability to provide services and its competitive pricing.
