BACKGROUND:
Once fully designed and permitted, the Butano Channel Restoration and Resilience Project will remove excess sediment which currently blocks fish passage in the Butano Channel, contributing to poor water quality and recurring fish kills in California State Parks' Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve. On May 16, 2017, the Board of Supervisors approved Resolution Number 075173 in support of a $4 million request to the County's State delegation for implementation funding for the Butano Channel Restoration and Resilience Project. The Governor approved the FY 2017 State budget on June 27, 2017, including the $4 million requested to construct restoration improvements for the regionally significant Butano Channel Restoration and Resilience coastal resource project.
In order to utilize the State funds for the construction of the Butano Channel Restoration and Resilience Project, the RCD and its partners, including State Parks and the County, must complete planning, design, and permitting tasks necessary to make the project construction-ready.
