Recommendation for the reappointment of Monica Colondres to the San Mateo County Civil Service Commission, representing District 4, for a second full term ending December 31, 2028.

BACKGROUND:

The Civil Service Commission consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one member from each supervisorial district.  Traditionally, each member of the Board of Supervisors has selected the Commissioner from his or her supervisorial district, subject to the approval of the entire Board of Supervisors.

 

Pursuant to Section 504 of the County Charter, appointments to the Civil Service Commission are for four-year terms.

 

DISCUSSION:

Monica Colondres has served on the Civil Service Commission since her initial partial term began in February 2019. She was then reappointed to a full term which began in January 2021. Approval of this reappointment will reflect a second full term from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028.

 

Ms. Colondres spent much of her working career at the San Mateo County Transit District, beginning as a bus operator to eventually serving as Director of Human Resources. Since her retirement after 38 years of public service, Ms. Colondres has become an independent labor arbitrator/mediator working to resolve labor and employee grievances.
