Recommendation for the appointment of Lois Fried to the San Mateo County Arts Commission, representing District 2, for an initial partial term ending December 31, 2026.

BACKGROUND:

The Arts Commission was created to promote and encourage the arts, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, to prepare and update the County’s strategic and cultural plan, and act as a liaison with arts organizations in order to ensure collaboration and coordination related to culture and art activities in San Mateo County.

 

DISCUSSION:

Lois Fried is being recommended to represent District 2 on the Arts Commission for an initial partial term ending December 31, 2026, coinciding with District 2 Supervisor’s term in office. The seat was formerly held by Aileen Cassinetto who has resigned.

 

Lois Fried is a member of the California Poetry Society and has served as a judge for Youth Poetry Contests held in San Mateo County. Her book of poetry, So Great the Journey, was published in 2023.  She has coordinated poetry reading events with the Belmont and Foster City Libraries, and the Friends of the Redwood City Public Library. Lois spent over thirty-five years in the Human Capital Management industry as a manager, speaker, leader, and trainer. She earned her BS degree in Business from Excelsior College in Albany, NY. Lois lives with her family in Foster City.
