Recommendation for the appointment of Karen Cunningham, representing District 5 on the San Mateo County Civil Service Commission, for an initial 4-year term ending November 6, 2027.

BACKGROUND:

The Civil Service Commission consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one member from each supervisorial district. Traditionally, each member of the Board of Supervisors has selected the Commissioner from their supervisorial district, subject to the approval of the entire Board of Supervisors.

 

DISCUSSION:

Karen Cunningham is being recommended to represent District 5 on the Civil Service Commission, a seat formally held by Sepi Wood, for an initial 4-year term.

 

Karen Cunningham is a Brisbane resident and has served as a City Council member of the City of Brisbane since 2017. Prior to her election as Councilmember, she served as a Planning Commissioner in Brisbane for seven years. She has served as a member of C/CAG and as a 16-year volunteer for Jackie Speier for Congress.

 

Pursuant to Section 504 of the County Charter, appointments to the Civil Service Commission are for four-year terms. This four-year term will take effect upon approval of this appointment.
