BACKGROUND:

The FY 2023-25 Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, awarded through the California Highway Patrol, offers an opportunity for a California county and/or city crime laboratory that services local governments to obtain funding to improve and advance the standardization of practices in toxicology laboratories supporting and aiding in the enforcement of Driving Under the Influence (DUI)/Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID) traffic laws related to alcohol and other drugs, including cannabis and cannabis products.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Sheriff’s Office applied for and has been awarded the FY 2023-25 Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program in the amount of $327,190.77, for a period commencing July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025.

 

Funding will assist with the purchase of additional evidential breath alcohol testing devices, a new computer and software to manage the County’s Breath Alcohol Program, and funding to host training classes to certify all law enforcement officers in the County as operators of the new devices.  

 

The resolution has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

This grant funding will be appropriated in the FY 2023-2025 Adopted Budget. The term of the grant is from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2025. There is no Net County Cost.
