B)                     The acceptance of in-kind donations in the amount of $143,700 from the Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks through a donation from Beth Guillaumin Perrell.

BACKGROUND:

San Mateo County Parks Foundation: The San Mateo County Parks Foundation (“Parks Foundation”) was established to provide additional financial support for the recreational, environmental, and educational programs and projects of the San Mateo County Parks Department (“Department”).

 

Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County: The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County (“Mounted Patrol”) is an equestrian organization that provides search and rescue volunteer services and donations to the Department for several County parks, including Edgewood, Huddart, Wunderlich, Pescadero, Sam McDonald, and San Pedro Valley.

 

The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks: The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks (“The Friends”) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the local environment and historic legacies of both Huddart Park and Wunderlich Park. The Friends are a combination of volunteers, donors, paid staff, and board members that collaborate with County Parks Department staff to preserve and protect the resources found at Huddart Park and Wunderlich Park.

Parks Foundation

In FY 2022-23, the Parks Foundation provided the Department with cash donations totaling $231,564 for various projects, programs, and events. The table below reflects cost estimates of each project, program, and event. Actual funding allocations may vary upon completion of the project, program, or event.

Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County

The Department received $15,500 from Mounted Patrol for a trail clearing project completed in Pescadero Creek County Park. The project consisted of removing storm damaged trees, bush trimming, treading, and the removal of invasive species.

 

The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks

The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks received a donation in the amount of $143,700 from Beth Guillaumin Perrell, and in turn, used the donation to make improvements to the hay barn and horse corrals at Wunderlich County Park.

 

The County Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no impact on Net County Cost. A year-end Appropriation Transfer Request (“ATR”) will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on or around September 26, 2023 in order to properly recognize unanticipated revenue from the cash donations for FY 2022-23.
