DISCUSSION:

Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who serves as the Board of Supervisors’ representative to the CAAB, recommends the appointment of Amourence Lee as an additional public sector representative.

Amourence Lee currently serves as Mayor of San Mateo, the largest city in the County of San Mateo. Mayor Lee was appointed to San Mateo City Council in 2019 and was elected in 2020.

Mayor Lee has a demonstrated public record of advocating for low-income populations and eliminating the causes of poverty. She supported increased affordable housing requirements on Caltrans and Peninsula Health Care District land, championed a 100% affordable housing project creating 225 new homes in downtown San Mateo, and supported $400,000 in Covid-19 rental assistance. Mayor Lee also serves as liaison to the Planning Commission and serves on the board of Peninsula Clean Energy.

As a mother, nonprofit executive, and successful businesswoman who grew up in public housing and with public assistance, Mayor Lee has firsthand experience with the challenges of poverty and has dedicated her life to creating healthy communities and families. She has extensive training in public policy and public health from Columbia University, combined with a 15+ year career building strong organizations and communities.
