Recommendation for the appointment of Amourence Lee to the San Mateo County Community Action Agency Board, representing the public sector, to serve an initial two-year term ending December 31, 2024.

BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo County Community Action Agency Board (SMC-CAAB) oversees the Community Action Agency whose mission is to eliminate the causes and ameliorate the conditions of poverty by advancing the self-sufficiency of low-income families and individuals in San Mateo County.
One third of the Board Members shall be elected public officials or their representatives, in one or more of the following categories to represent the public sector perspective on the Board:
* Member(s) of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors;
* Member(s) of the Town or City Council of any town or city located in San Mateo County.
The Board currently has a vacancy for this public sector appointee.
DISCUSSION:
Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who serves as the Board of Supervisors' representative to the CAAB, recommends the appointment of Amourence Lee as an additional public sector representative.
Amourence Lee currently serves as Mayor of San Mateo, the largest city in the County of San Mateo. Mayor Lee was appointed to San Mateo City Council in 2019 and was elected in 2020.
Mayor Lee has a demonstrated public record of advocating for low-income populations and eliminating the causes of poverty. She supported increased affordable housing requirements on Caltrans and Peninsula Health Care District land, championed a 100% affordable housing project creating 225 new homes in downtown San Mateo, and supported $400,000 in Covid-19 rental assistance.
