Subject:                      Amendment to the Agreement with Cal Engineering & Geology for the 2021 On-Call Engineering and Professional Services

RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement with Cal Engineering & Geology to provide on-call geotechnical engineering services for various County projects, increasing the amount by $1,900,000 to an amount not-to-exceed $2,700,000.

body

BACKGROUND:

On October 19, 2021, this Board adopted Resolution No. 078497(n), which authorized the Agreement with Cal Engineering & Geology to provide geotechnical engineering and professional services for various County projects in the amount not-to-exceed $800,000.

DISCUSSION:

Amendment No. 1 increases the not-to-exceed amount of the Agreement to $2,700,000.  Cal Engineering & Geology has performed on-call geotechnical services for various County projects through Task Orders issued by the Department. Due to the severity of the 2022/2023 winter storms, additional efforts will be necessary from Cal Engineering & Geology to analyze and design emergency slide repair projects at multiple locations along the County’s maintained roadway system. The Department recommends Amendment No. 1 be executed to provide the needed services to investigate current conditions, evaluate repair strategies, and design repair projects.

The Department has coordinated with Cal Engineering & Geology regarding the requested increase and is recommending that Amendment No.1 be executed to allow for continued geotechnical engineering and professional services. Amendment No. 1 increases the not-to-exceed amount of the Agreement by $1,900,000.

County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Amendment will increase the current Agreement amount by $1,900,000, for a new not-to-exceed amount of $2,700,000. Sufficient funds have been allocated in the Road Fund for this Amendment and the Department will seek Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds for FEMA eligible emergency repair work.

There is no impact to the General Fund.
