body

BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Elections Code Section 10002, the Board of Supervisors, upon request by the governing body of any city or district, may permit the County’s Chief Elections Officer to render specified services to the city or district relating to the conduct of an election. The governing board of the District issued a resolution calling for a parcel tax measure to be submitted to voters at the Special Election.

DISCUSSION:

The request of the District’s governing body is proper, the County’s Chief Elections Officer is agreeable to providing the specified elections services as requested for the Special Election, and all related costs will be reimbursed by the District to the extent authorized by law. The District and the County’s Chief Elections Officer will enter into an agreement covering election services and supplies to be provided in connection with the Special Election and reimbursement for the costs of such services and supplies.

The County Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

PERFORMANCE MEASURE:

Measure

June 5, 2018 Actual

May 2, 2023 Projected

In the June 5, 2018 Statewide Direct Primary Election, voters residing in the Millbrae School District voted on a similar parcel tax, and staff expects the turnout for the Special Election to be similar to, or slightly higher than, the June 5, 2018 Election.

FISCAL IMPACT:

All costs for election services incurred by the County for the Special Election will be reimbursed by the District to the extent authorized by law.
