Recommendation for the appointment of Evaine Young to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Commission, for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2024.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies, programs, procedures and legislation affecting LGBTQ individuals in San Mateo County, and provides outreach and support to at-risk and underserved LGBTQ populations within San Mateo County, including youth, communities of color, non-English speakers, older adults, and immigrants. The Commission promotes transgender inclusion among private and public entities in San Mateo County, including access to health care and to gendered spaces such as bathrooms and shelters. It develops initiatives to support LGBTQ families with children in San Mateo County and provides a public forum for input from the LGBTQ community to identify unmet needs.

 

DISCUSSION:

Evaine Young is being recommended to serve on the LGBTQ Commission for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2024, for a seat that was recently vacated by Rudy Espinosa-Murray.

 

Evaine is a resident of Redwood City and works for Meta as a Security Program Manager. She is a veteran of the US Air Force where she was an Instructor Pilot. Since her time in the military Evaine has worked in the corporate world managing various teams in IT and security. She is a part of Meta’s Pride@ Resource Group and has previously volunteered in various community organizations in the locations she has lived. As a part of the local LGBTQ community, she wants to be more involved in creating a more inclusive environment for everyone.
