BACKGROUND:

The County’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program has occupied space at 2342 El Camino Real, in Redwood City, since June 10, 2003.

The WIC Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture initiative provides federal funds to promote healthy eating, breastfeeding support, and access to nutritious foods through direct food benefits to low-income pregnant women, mothers and children up to the age of five in San Mateo County. WIC’s goal is to reduce the incidence of low birth weights and improve the nutritional status of at-risk low-income mothers and their children.

In San Mateo County, WIC serves approximately 20,000 low-income women and their children by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, food benefits and active referrals to County health and community services. WIC is often the first point of contact for many families seeking health and social service referrals.

DISCUSSION:

Real Property Services has negotiated a monthly base rental amount of $8,986 for the 2,489 square foot office space, gross.  Office Space Rent will be subject to a 3% annual increase, and the term of the agreement will continue through March 31, 2028, with one option to extend the term for five-years.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the agreement is March 15, 2015 through March 31, 2028. Funds in the amount of $107,832 are included in the Family Health Services FY 2022-23 Adopted Budget. Similar arrangements will be made for future years. There is no Net County Cost associated with this agreement.
