Recommendation for appointments of to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Commission:

 

A)                     Marilyn Hollinger for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2025; and

 

B)                     Jana Rickerson, for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2025; and

 

C)                     Aaron Adriano for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2023.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies, programs, procedures and legislation affecting LGBTQ individuals in San Mateo County, and provides outreach and support to at-risk and underserved LGBTQ populations within San Mateo County, including youth, communities of color, non-English speakers, older adults, and immigrants. The Commission promotes transgender inclusion among private and public entities in San Mateo County, including access to health care and to gendered spaces such as bathrooms and shelters. It develops initiatives to support LGBTQ families with children and LGBTQ seniors in San Mateo County and provides a public forum for input from the LGBTQ community to identify unmet needs.

 

DISCUSSION:

Marilyn Hollinger is being recommended to serve on the LGBTQ Commission for an existing full term ending June 30, 2025 which was formerly held by Steve Disselhorst whose term ended June 30, 2022.

 

Jana Rickerson is being recommended to serve on the LGBTQ Commission for an existing full term ending June 30, 2025 which was formerly held by Rev. Terri Echelbarger whose term ended June 30, 2022.

 

Aaron Adriano is being recommended to serve on the LGBTQ Commission for an initial partial term for a seat that was recently vacated by Giuliana Garcia, due to moving out of the County. This partial term will end on June 30, 2023.

 

Marilyn Hollinger has lived in San Mateo County since 1993. Professionally she works in the tech field and currently is Senior Director at Betterworks. She is an officer on the Board of Trustees at Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame and has volunteered extensively with school-based groups. She has two gender diverse kids and currently lives in South San Francisco.

 

Jana Rickerson has been a resident of San Mateo County for 25 years. She has worked for Santa Clara County’s Department of Family and Children’s Services and most recently worked for Openhouse in San Francisco until her retirement in 2021. Jana lives in Pacifica with her wife.

 

Aaron Adriano is currently a student at Stanford University and has lived in Daly City all of their life. They serve South San Francisco’s Youth Commission and has served as the Commission’s Vice Chair.  They also have interned at the San Mateo County Pride Center and currently is part of Stanford’s Queer and Asian Club. They live in Daly City.
