BACKGROUND:

On June 1, 2021, the County Executive Office (CEO) initiated the OAC to strengthen the organizational structure of the San Mateo County Arts Commission (Arts Commission) and work to promote and amplify arts and culture throughout the County. On August 2, 2022, the Board established the OAC to elevate the significance of arts and culture as a driver in enhancing the vibrancy of life, education, and economy in the County by promoting culture-related policies and programs. The OAC’s mission is furthered through funding in the form of donations and grants.

Pursuant to County Administrative Memorandum B-3, “[r]eceipt of each gift or bequest having a value of more than $2,500 or with significant conditions or stipulations shall be acknowledged in writing by the [County] department head and referred to the Board of Supervisors for acceptance or rejection.” The OAC recommends that the Board accept the above donations totaling $100,620, as well as the $62,000 grant from the California Arts Council.

Further, OAC recommends that the Board approve an ATR in the amount of $162,620, which is the amount of the above donations totaling $100,620 plus the $62,000 grant from the California Arts Council, by transferring such amount to the OAC.

The County Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.
