Subject:                      Domestic Violence Council Membership

RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution modifying the membership of the Domestic Violence Council to include, as an Appointed Member, a second individual representing a non-profit agency providing legal services to battered women.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Domestic Violence Council (DVC) includes Categorical Members-those who serve by virtue of their public or other specifically designated office-and Appointed Members-those who are appointed by or confirmed by the Board. Some Appointed Members are individuals who represent specific entities, such as the Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association; other Appointed Members are individuals who represent specific types of entities, such as agencies providing treatment services to batterers. And there are four Appointed Members who represent the community at large.

DISCUSSION:

On July 1, 2014, the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution adding the County Executive to the DVC membership. That resolution inadvertently removed one of two individuals representing a non-profit agency providing legal services to battered women.  The proposed resolution corrects the membership list by adding this member back.  It also updates the names of the County Manager to County Executive and the Police Chiefs Association to the Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
