San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. Since 2007, Gordon Mak, MD has provided pulmonary/critical care services for San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC). The County's need for pulmonologist is increasing due to the aging of its patient population and the current COVID-19 pandemic. SMMC will continue to meet this growing need through contracts with Dr. Mak and other pulmonologists.
