title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an amendment to the agreement with Gordon Mak, MD, to provide pulmonary and critical care services, extending the term by two months through September 30, 2022, and increasing the amount by $81,470 to an amount not to exceed $1,081,470.

BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population and access to services to its general population. Dr. Mak has been providing pulmonary and critical care services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since 2007.

DISCUSSION:
Dr. Mak and other pulmonologists currently meet the County's need for this service due to the aging of its patient population and the current COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Dr. Mak serves in the role of Medical Director of Pulmonary. Dr. Mak's current contract expires on July 31, 2022.

Under this amendment, Dr. Mak has agreed to continue to provide pulmonary medical services for an additional two months to allow for additional time to negotiate a new agreement.

As a result, it is now necessary to increase the contract amount by $81,470, to an amount not to exceed $1,081,470, to cover the cost of pulmonary and critical care services during the two-month extension of the contract.

Under County Administrative Memorandum B-1, agreements with physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The amendment and resolution have been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney as to form.
