BACKGROUND:

The mission of the San Mateo County Commission on Aging (CoA) is to improve the quality of life for seniors in San Mateo County through the promotion of independence, self-sufficiency, mental and physical health, as well as community involvement.

 

DISCUSSION:

Erzsebet Taylor joined the commission in September 2018 during a partial term and is being recommended to serve a second full term on the commission.  Commissioner Taylor has been actively serving the Commission and devoting her effort to improving the quality of life of older adults in San Mateo County. Retired as a Registered Nurse after serving in the medical profession for 40 years, Commissioner Taylor is passionate about addressing the needs and interests of older adults and working collaboratively with other Commission members and the Aging and Adult Services Division. Commissioner Taylor speaks and writes multiple languages (Hungarian, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and German) and has the capacity to serve as an advocate for non-English speaking constituents.

 

Patty Clement-Cihak has been serving since her partial term began in December 2016 and is being recommended to serve a second full term on the commission. Commissioner Clement-Cihak is a seasoned Commissioner with 30+ years of experience in aging services dedicating her career to older adults in San Mateo County and the City and County of San Francisco. Commissioner Clement-Cihak has been a board member of the California Association for Adult Day Services and Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly. Additionally, she is also a steering committee member of the New Beginning Coalition whose mission is to improve the quality of life of San Mateo County’s diverse population of older adults and adults with disabilities. With her extensive experience and knowledge, Commissioner Clement-Cihak has been playing an instrumental role in identifying and addressing the support that older residents in San Mateo County need.

 

Marie Elena Barr has been serving since her partial term began in November 2017 and is being recommended to serve her second full term. Commissioner Barr is both professionally and personally committed to serving seniors in San Mateo County. With a strong belief that seniors are our national treasure, Commissioner Barr has brought her experience as a caregiver for her husband to the Commission. Her goal is to contribute her knowledge and experience in making a stronger, more inclusive aging community for the betterment of the quality of life of older adults in San Mateo County.

 

JoAnne Arnos has served on the commission since her partial term began in July 2013, and is being recommended to serve for a third full term.  Commissioner Arnos is a retired Radiology Technician and has over 17 years of healthcare professional experience. In addition to serving the Commission, Commissioner Arnos volunteered her time to serve the community by chairing the Pacifica Cultural Arts Commission and the Pacifica Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee. Currently, Commissioner Arnos is serving as a Senior Peer Counselor at Peninsula Family Services where she regularly helps older adults manage transitions and life changes as a result of health concerns, mobility issues and caregiver needs. Commissioner Arnos is dedicated to supporting all San Mateo County seniors and is especially committed to advocating and supporting the inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
