BACKGROUND:

The Memorial Park Electrical Improvements Project (Project) is located at Memorial Park (Park) in the Loma Mar area of unincorporated San Mateo County. The Park experiences frequent and unexpected power outages year-round, which significantly affect Park operations. The utility provided electrical service provides power to several important Park facilities including: the water treatment plant, the wastewater treatment plant, pumps, the ranger station, restrooms, and the general store.

DISCUSSION:

The Parks Department retained Sherwood Engineers to develop the plans and specifications for this Project to be competitively bid. This Project will construct a generator backup power system to be utilized during power outages, which will enable key Park components and systems to remain operational. The Project improvements include the purchase and installation of two generators and other items required to operate the system, which include, but are not limited to, transfer switches, propane tanks, and gas and electrical lines.

County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The estimated construction cost for the Project is $665,160, and funds have been allocated in the Capital Projects Budget for this work. There is no impact to the General Fund.
