body

BACKGROUND:

The Planning Commission serves the County and its communities by preparing, administering, and enforcing land use plans and development regulations that protect public safety, preserve agricultural and environmental resources, address housing and transportation needs, and create healthy and prosperous communities, in a manner that fosters community engagement and provides exceptional levels of service.  Pursuant to the San Mateo County Ordinance Code, a Commissioner shall be appointed to the Planning Commission from each of the County’s five supervisorial Districts.

As per the bylaws for the Commission, the term of office for each member shall coincide with the term of the office of the Supervisor of the supervisorial district in which the member resides, with each term being a 4-year term, for a maximum of 12 years.

DISCUSSION:

Manuel Ramirez began serving a partial term in October 2013 and was reappointed in January 2017. Per bylaws, commissioners serve for a term coinciding with the Supervisor’s term. As such, Manuel Ramirez’s second full term will reflect a 4-year term from January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024 upon approval of this reappointment.

Mr. Ramirez is a 30-year resident of North Fair Oaks, where he resides with his wife and daughters.  As the owner of his own construction company, Mr. Ramirez is familiar with all aspects of residential projects through design, permitting and construction.

Mr. Ramirez has long devoted his time and energy to the North Fair Oaks community at large and has worked collaboratively with Redwood City and San Mateo County on issues of concern.  He was an active member in the steering committee which created the North Fair Oaks Community Plan and served on the North Fair Oaks Community Council from 2009 until 2013, including a term as its Chair.
