BACKGROUND:

The City of Redwood City (“City”) owns an existing sanitary sewer easement located on property owned by the County of San Mateo (“County”) at 752 Chestnut Street, in Redwood City. The existing sanitary sewer easement requires a realignment, and will be partially vacated and replaced by a new sewer easement (the “New Easement”).

The new sewer easement being granted to the City by this Board action (the “New Easement”) will provide the necessary realignment for that small portion of the newly constructed sewer facilities located on the County-owned property; the new sewer facilities will be situated in the space (approximately 10’ wide) completely within the easement boundaries comprised of both the prior easement and the New Easement.

The County will convey the New Easement to the City, including appropriate access to facilitate City’s maintenance of the sewer facilities. Redwood City will take action to vacate or quitclaim its interest in the portion of the prior easement that is no longer needed for sewer purposes. County has provided plans, legal descriptions, and plat maps, which have been reviewed and approved by the City.

DISCUSSION:

Real Property Services prepared the Grant of Easement and Dedication in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Redwood City. The Department of Public Works and the City concur with the transaction. County Counsel has reviewed the resolution and conveyance documents as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no impact to the County General Fund as a result of the County’s execution of the Grant of Easement and Dedication to Redwood City.
