BACKGROUND:
In April 2021, San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) completed a Request for Proposals for medical waste disposal services. On December 14, 2021, SMMC and Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. entered into an agreement to provide medical waste disposal services for the term of January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022, in an amount not to exceed $200,000.

DISCUSSION:
SMMC has an ongoing need for medical waste disposal services. SMMC is requesting the Board extend the term of the agreement through December 31, 2024, with an associated increase in funding.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

It is anticipated that medical and pharmaceutical waste generated by Health Services will be disposed of in 100% compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
