BACKGROUND:

The Commission on the Status of Women is charged with the responsibility of assessing the needs of women, girls and families in the County. The Commission also acts as a resource to the Board of Supervisors (the “Board”) and makes recommendations to the Board annually.

 

DISCUSSION:

Aileen Cassinetto is being recommended to fill a full term for a seat formerly held by Becky Abens. Upon approval, the term will commence January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2025.

 

Aileen currently lives in the City of San Mateo with her family. She also serves as the County of San Mateo’s Poet Laureate and is active in bringing awareness to the community regarding poetry and spoken artistry. Aileen has always been an advocate for women’s rights, having volunteered in and spearheaded fundraisers in support of women’s shelters. She encourages self-expression and healing through the art of poetry and storytelling and has spent much time in the last couple of years building strong community relationships with individuals, SMC commissions and nonprofits.
