BACKGROUND:

For the efficient and effective statutory compliance of the review of juvenile operations in this county, the Court and the Board have agreed that the appointees by the Court to the Juvenile Justice Commission are appointed concurrently by the Board of Supervisors to the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Commission.

DISCUSSION:

With the recommendation of the Juvenile Judge Susan Irene Etezadi, Presiding Judge Leland Davis III has appointed Aarman Khare-Arora and Steven Duddy to the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Commission for the term prescribed by law. Upon approval of appointment, their terms are effective January 1, 2022. This is a request that the Board of Supervisors appoint the above-listed commissioners to the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Commission.

Aarman Khare-Arora is being recommended for appointment to a seat formerly held by Sonoo Thadaney, for an initial partial term ending December 31, 2022. Steven Duddy is being recommended for appointment to a seat formerly held by Victor Lecha III, for a first full term ending December 31, 2025.

Aarman Khare-Arora is senior at Menlo-Atherton High School and regular volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, where he started tutoring underserved students as a freshman and later helped with food drives and meal distribution efforts in East Palo Alto during the pandemic. He looks forward to bringing a youthful perspective and knowledge of HTML to the commission’s projects, including its analysis of afterschool programs and the development of online data dashboards.

Steven Duddy is a long-time San Mateo resident and current CEO of Corinth MedTech Inc., a medical device company headquartered in San Jose. His past civic activities have included coaching youth wrestling, football and Little League baseball, and serving as Assistant Scout Master with a Boy Scout troop in San Ramon. He hopes to bring strong interpersonal, strategic-thinking, and marketing skills to the commission. Also, as the father of a local police officer and husband of a marriage and family therapist, he hopes to apply his own knowledge of the juvenile justice system and how to improve it.

FISCAL IMPACT:
