BACKGROUND:
The First 5 Commission consists of nine members (a) one member of the Board of Supervisors, (b) the director of the County of Health System, (c) the director of the County Human Services Agency, (d) the County Superintendent of Schools, and (e) five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors from among the following categories: recipients of project services included in the county strategic plan; educators specializing in early childhood development; representatives of a local child care resource or referral agency or a local child care coordinating group; representatives of a local organization for prevention of early intervention for families at risk; representatives of community-based organizations that have the goal of promoting nurturing and early childhood development; representatives of local school districts; and representatives of local medical, pediatric or obstetric associations or societies.

DISCUSSION:
Alexis Becerra was appointed to the commission in March 2019 for an existing partial term ending December 31, 2021. Upon approval of this reappointment, it will be Alexis's first full 3-year term commencing January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024.

Alexis Becerra's current role as a mental health therapist with students at the high school level, would be an important asset to the First 5 SMC Commission's growing leadership and advocacy role throughout the county. Ms. Becerra has ...
