BACKGROUND:

A top priority of San Mateo County’s plan to mitigate COVID-19's impact on San Mateo County residents remains to maximize reach of the vaccineAs we continue to see vaccine uptake, we are grateful to be among the most highly vaccinated communities in the country.  At the same time, we recognize that achieving equitable vaccine reach requires radically convenient options for residents in the most vulnerable communities to overcome the access barriers they confront.

In the early months of the vaccination rollout, Stanford connected with San Mateo County to assure that its large-scale vaccination clinic in Redwood City could be a resource to the County’s most vulnerable eligible older adults as well as healthcare workers and other essential workers who became eligible. With the feedback of residents and community leaders with trust in the least reached communities, we also mobilized consistent vaccination options at locations, days and times that meet the needs of residents.

In East Palo Alto, Stanford Healthcare (Stanford) partnered with San Mateo County and the existing safety net clinic and pharmacy providers to offer regular, weekend clinics throughout the spring and summer of 2021. The Stanford team worked with City and community leaders and trusted community-based organizations to assure that these regular weekend clinics would be welcoming, safe and efficient.  And, Stanford has contributed to learnings important to the overall vaccination rollout effort that continues to work toward no communities being left behind.

Our County is fortunate to have Stanford as a partner in this incredibly important work.
