BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. Since October 2012 Dr. David Martin has provided urology services for San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC), treating disorders of the kidney, urethral tract and bladder. During that time, Dr. Martin also has served as SMMC's Medical Director for Urology.

DISCUSSION:
Under this agreement, Dr. Martin has agreed to provide a minimum of four and up to five half-day urology clinics, as well as a minimum of two to four half-day surgery blocks per week.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

It is anticipated that 100% of Dr. Martin's patients diagnosed with kidney stones will receive lithotripsy treatment within 24 hours of the diagnosis.
