BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population, as well as access to services to its general population. Dr. Bains has been providing hematology oncology services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since 2017.

DISCUSSION:
The County's need for hematology oncology services remains substantial due to the medical needs of its patient population. Dr. Bains has agreed to provide 0.7 FTE of hematology oncology services, the same level of services she provided in the previously amended agreement and will continue to share call coverage with the other hematology oncology provider under contract with SMMC.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

It is anticipated that the percentage of outside referrals made for hematology oncology services will be reduced by 15%.
