BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population, as well as access to services to its general population. Dr. Chang has been providing ophthalmology services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since 2018.

DISCUSSION:
The County's need for ophthalmology services continues to remain high due to the aging of its patient population. Dr. Chang will be providing four clinic blocks and two surgery blocks per month of ophthalmology services, a slight increase in services, and the same call coverage as her previous agreement.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

It is anticipated that 100% of all cataract surgery services provided will adhere to the infection control standards as defined by the Joint Commission and Title XXII of the State of California, Code of Regulations, which will result in reduced risk of healthcare-associated infections.
