Recommendation for appointments to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Commission:

 

A)                     Rudy Espinoza, for an initial full term ending June 30, 2024; and

 

B)                     Eduardo Gonzalez, for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2023.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies, programs, procedures and legislation affecting LGBTQ individuals in San Mateo County, and provides outreach and support to at-risk and underserved LGBTQ populations within San Mateo County, including youth, communities of color, non-English speakers, older adults, and immigrants. The Commission promotes transgender inclusion among private and public entities in San Mateo County, including access to health care and to gendered spaces such as bathrooms and shelters. It develops initiatives to support LGBTQ families with children in San Mateo County and provides a public forum for input from the LGBTQ community to identify unmet needs.

 

DISCUSSION:

Rudy Espinoza is being recommended to serve on the LGBTQ Commission after the resignation of Lelan Anders who will be moving out of San Mateo County this summer.

 

Eduardo Gonzalez is being recommended to serve after the resignation of Dena Marie Sexton mid-term.

 

Mr. Espinoza is currently the Marketing Director at YIMBY Action in San Francisco and has previously worked for Google and Intel in Mexico City, Mexico. He helped found the San Mateo County Stonewall Democratic Club, and, along with his husband, is enjoying fatherhood with the recent arrival of his daughter Avery. He lives in Redwood City with his family.

 

Eduardo “Lalo” Gonzalez lives in Daly City and has been a Program Manager of Youth Leadership Institute in San Mateo County where is coordinates statewide youth development, working toward promoting youth voice through youth-led action. Lalo has worked extensively on the coastside and has helped promote and develop youth voice with CoastPride.
