BACKGROUND:
The Commission on Disabilities is an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors, providing opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in, and influence the development of, public policy that promotes the full integration of people with disabilities in their communities. Members of the Commission are dedicated and committed to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through San Mateo County.

DISCUSSION:
As per commission bylaws, the terms of members are 3 years, for a maximum of 12 years.

Janet Borgens, Anne Mathew, Steven Anthony Van, and Ryan Love are being recommended to fill seats formerly held by Helen Lo, Veronica Navarro, Dawn Ward, and Shirley Moore, and each expired June 30, 2020.

As an experienced City Councilmember and community volunteer, Janet Borgens brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be of great benefit to the disabilities community. Through her 48 years of interacting with the disabilities community, as well as her own experience of caring for family members with disabilities, she has developed an understanding of the challenges and needs that individuals with disabilities face. Her energy and commitment to serving will be a welcome addition to the Commission on Disabilities.
