BACKGROUND:
The Board adopted Resolution No. 064550 on June 19, 2001, which authorized the Director of Public Works to enter into cost reimbursement type agreements with cities or utility companies for work done in conjunction with road projects in an amount not to exceed $50,000.

DISCUSSION:
The Board previously authorized the Director of Public Works to enter into agreements in amounts not to exceed $50,000 with cities, other public agencies, or utility companies for street maintenance services or construction work in conjunction with County road projects or for County road work in conjunction with city road projects. This Board action was taken several years ago, and since that time the cost of construction work has increased. The Department is recommending that this authority of the Director of Public Works be increased to an amount not exceeding $200,000. This amount is consistent with the Director's authority for consultant, contractor, and vendor agreements. Is it also the maximum authority for projects that can be contracted under informal bid procedures.

These agreements are typically executed when a County road project includes work for an adjacent city or utility company at the city's or utility company's request. It can also be utilized when an adjacent city includes work on County facilities at part of the city's project at the County's request.
