Adopt a resolution authorizing the Chief Elections Officer to render specified election services for the Portola Valley School District in conjunction with a Special Mail Ballot Election to be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

body

BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Section 10002 of the California Elections Code, the governing body of any city or district may request the Board of Supervisors of the County to permit the County’s Chief Elections Officer to render specified services to the city or district relating to the conduct of an election. Subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors, these services shall be performed by the County’s Chief Elections Officer.

The governing board of the Portola Valley School District issued a resolution calling for a parcel tax measure to be submitted to voters on May 4, 2021

DISCUSSION:

The request of the governing body of the above-mentioned school district is proper, the County’s Chief Elections Officer is agreeable to providing the specified elections services as requested, and all related costs will be reimbursed by the requesting school district to the extent authorized by law.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

In the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election, voters residing in Portola Valley School District voted on a similar parcel tax to that of the May 4, 2021 Special Mail Ballot Election. However, there is a significant difference between the two elections: The May 4, 2021 Special Mail Ballot Election will only include precincts voting on one school district measure, in contrast to a large-scale consolidated presidential primary election.

FISCAL IMPACT:

All costs for election services incurred by the County will be reimbursed by the above-mentioned school district to the extent authorized by law.
