BACKGROUND:

Per California Government Code 27131, the County Treasurer has elected to appoint Virginia Chang Kiraly, San Mateo County Harbor District Commissioner and Menlo Park Fire Protection District Director, to serve on the Treasury Oversight Committee as one of the five public members nominated by the Treasurer, subject to the Board of Supervisor’s confirmation.

 

DISCUSSION:

Ms. Kiraly is an elected member of both the San Mateo County Harbor District Board and the Menlo Park Fire Protection District Board. As Director of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District Board for the past nine years Ms. Kiraly has served on the Finance Committee for six years, assisted with selecting an auditor and developing and renewing the Fire District’s Investment Policy. Ms. Kiraly is Commissioner of the San Mateo County Harbor District, and for the past five years she has served on the Finance Committee. In addition to her government experience she has a background as an Investment Executive for PaineWebber, and she was a Senior Director for the NASDAQ Stock Market. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government at the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Public Administration at the University of Southern California.
