BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County BHRS and the City of San Mateo, the City of South San Francisco, the City of Daly City and the City of Redwood City have developed a two-year pilot program to improve City and County response to community members experiencing mental health crisis (Pilot Program). This Pilot Program enhances law enforcement response by supplementing it with the engagement of a BHRS Clinician assigned to each partner Police Department to provide early intervention, referrals to therapeutic hospitalizations, and guidance to support services for individuals in mental health crisis. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Cities and the County in regards to this Pilot Program was presented to and approved by this Board on January 12, 2021.
