RECOMMENDATION:

title

Recommendation for the reappointment of Sepi Wood, representing District 5 on the San Mateo County Civil Service Commission; and waiver of the 12-year limitation of service, for a four year term through December 31, 2024 or as soon thereafter as a replacement is appointed.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Civil Service Commission consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one member from each supervisorial district.  Traditionally, each member of the Board of Supervisors has selected the Commissioner from their supervisorial district, subject to the approval of the entire Board of Supervisors.

County of San Mateo Resolution Number 69276 limits members of board and commissions to 12 years of service. This limitation, however, may be waived by the Board of Supervisors.

DISCUSSION:

Sepi Wood (formerly known as Sepi Richardson) was first appointed to the Civil Service Commission’s 5th District seat in September 2000. She was subsequently reappointed to additional 4-year terms in 2001, 2005, 2009, and 2013. In 2019, Ms. Wood was reappointed through the end of December 2020.  She served as a Brisbane City Councilmember for 15 years. Her past service includes several countywide bodies, including the Criminal Justice Council, the Airport Roundtable and C/CAG.

If this extension were approved, Ms. Wood’s term would coincide with my current term in office.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
