Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Duc Marcel Nguyen, MD to provide orthopedic services for the term of April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2024, in an amount not to exceed $800,000.

BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population, as well as access to services to its general population. Dr. Nguyen has been providing orthopedic services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for the past twenty years.
DISCUSSION:
The County's need for orthopedic services continues to increase. SMMC will be able to meet this need through contracts with Dr. Nguyen and other orthopedists. Dr. Nguyen will continue to provide, at a minimum, the same level of services as under the previous agreement.
County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.
The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.
The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
It is anticipated that Dr. Nguyen will timely complete accurate billing records 80% of the time.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The term of the agreement is April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2024. The amount of the agreement is not to exceed $800,000 for the three-year term. Funds in the amount of $266,666 are included in the SMMC FY 2020-21 Recommended Budget.
