RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing a third amendment to the agreement with Crothall Laundry Services, Inc. to provide laundry linen rental services, extending the term of the agreement by five months through December 31, 2020, and increase the amount payable by $225,000, to an amount not to exceed $2,942,000.

body

BACKGROUND:

On December 15, 2014, the Board approved an agreement with Crothall Laundry Services, Inc. (Crothall) to provide San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) with laundry linen rental services.

DISCUSSION:

With the recent global pandemic, SMMC was unable to issue a new Request for Proposal in a timely manner. SMMC is requesting the Board to allow Crothall to continue to provide these services and increase the funding through the end of the new term. This agreement is going to the Board late due to prolonged negotiations with the vendor.

The amendment and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County’s standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

The County’s Contract Compliance Committee has approved a waiver request for a seventy months term for this agreement.

It is anticipated that SMMC’s linen inventory will be processed and delivered daily 100% of the time to meet patient needs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the amended agreement is February 1, 2015 through December 31, 2020. The amount of the agreement is not to exceed $2,942,000. The amendment increases the amount payable under the agreement by $225,000. Funds in the amount of $225,000 are included in the SMMC FY 2020-21 Recommended Budget.

Expenses at SMMC are covered by fees for services or third-party payors whenever possible. The portion of expenses for services provided to the medically indigent or to those covered by programs that do not meet the full costs of care is covered by the County’s General Fund contribution to SMMC and is within the existing annual appropriation.
