BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population, and access to services to its general population. Dr. Mak has been providing pulmonary and critical care services at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since 2007 and will continue to provide at least, the same level that he currently provides to the County.

DISCUSSION:
The County's need for pulmonologist is increasing due to the aging of its patient population and the current COVID-19 pandemic. SMMC will continue to meet this growing need through contracts with Dr. Mak and other pulmonologists. Dr. Mak has agreed to provide the necessary clinic, test interpretation, and call coverage for County patients. In addition, Dr. Mak will have the role of Medical Director of Pulmonary.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).

It is anticipated that Dr. Mak will timely complete accurate billing records 85% of the time.
