BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Following the retirement of Jim Eggemeyer, the County conducted a nationwide recruitment for the position of Office of Sustainability Director. Carolyn Bloede has been appointed by the County Manager as the best candidate for this position based on her extensive experience in the field, including 17 years leading Alameda County’s Sustainability Office. In this capacity, Ms. Bloede spearheaded strategic and innovative sustainability initiatives including developing and implementing climate action plans.

Ms. Bloede’s expansive strategic planning, leadership, management, community engagement, and sustainability experience make her exceptionally qualified to lead the County of San Mateo’s Office of Sustainability.

The Charter requires the Board of Supervisors to confirm the County Manager’s appointment of department heads.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The compensation and benefits for this position are set forth in the County’s Resolution establishing the salary and benefits for the unrepresented Management Employees of the County approved by this Board in January of 2019.
