RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing an amendment to the agreement with United California Fire Protection for sprinkler system inspections and repair at the San Carlos Airport, increasing the contract amount by $38,081 for a new not to exceed amount of $138,031 with no change to the agreement term.

body

BACKGROUND:

On September 10, 2015 the Department of Public Works, Airports Division (Airport), entered into an agreement with United California Fire Protection (United Fire) to provide sprinkler system and repair services in the amount of $8,942 for the term of September 10, 2015 through September 9, 2020.

On December 31, 2015, the Airport executed Amendment No. One to the agreement with United Fire, increasing the contract amount to $25,000 due to an increase in scope of work including additional maintenance services.

On April 11, 2018, the Airport executed Amendment No. Two to the agreement with United Fire, increasing the contract amount to $99,950 for needed repairs to an 8-inch water supply line of the fire suppression system for a row of hangars in the Mike hangar area.

On September 7, 2018, the Airport executed Amendment No. Three to the agreement with United Fire, extending the term until September 9, 2020.

On September 18, 2018, the Airport executed Amendment No. Four to the agreement with United Fire, amending the language to include Non-Discrimination and other requirements.

DISCUSSION:

The Airport conducts quarterly and annual inspections of fire protection sprinkler systems as required by local fire codes. United Fire also conducts maintenance to the Airport sprinkler systems and repairs when necessary. The age of some sprinkler systems at the Airport, unexpected pipeline failures and associated repairs necessitate an increase in the amount of the contract with United Fire. Amendment No. Five would increase the contract total amount with United Fire to $138,031. County Counsel has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Amendment No. Five will increase the contract by $38,081 to a new not to exceed amount of $138,031 with no change to the agreement term.

There is no impact to the General Fund.
