BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

The County has conducted a statewide recruitment for the position of Director of Agriculture/Weights and Measures. Koren Widdel has been nominated by the County Manager as the best candidate for this position based on her 20 years experience in the field. For the past three years, Ms. Widdel has served as Deputy Director of Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer in Alameda County and prior to that she worked for 17 years in our County’s Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures. She began her County career as a Biologist/Standards Specialist and then promoted to Deputy Director of Agriculture/Weights and Measures. Ms. Widdel is licensed as a County Agricultural Commissioner and County Sealer of Weights and Measures from the State of California.

 

Ms. Widdel’s expertise in the regulated industry, her experience working with the County’s agriculture community, and her excellent communication and collaboration skills will serve the organization and community well.

 

The Charter requires the Board of Supervisors to confirm appointments of department heads nominated by the County Manager. With this Board’s confirmation, Koren Widdel will begin serving on April 13, 2020.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Ms. Widdel will start at the Director of Agriculture/Weights and Measures Step C level.  The compensation and benefits for this position are set forth in the County’s Resolution establishing the salary and benefits for the unrepresented Management Employees of the County approved by this Board in January of 2019.
