BACKGROUND:
San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) has a continuing need for contracted medical staff to provide urology services.

DISCUSSION:
Sequoia Urology Center will assume some of the clinic duties that include the provision of urology services, in addition to providing on-call coverage.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.

It is anticipated that for emergency room and inpatient services involving urology, the number of patients requiring transfer to outside facilities will decrease by 50%.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The term of the agreement is March 1, 2020 through February 28, 2022. The amount of the agreement is not to exceed $1,000,000 for the two-year term. Funds in the amount of $500,000 are included in the SMMC FY 2020-21 Recommended Budget. Funds in the amount of $500,000 will be included in the SMMC FY 2021-22 Recommended Budget.

The payment provisions are based on the 2019 rates published by the Medical Group Management Association, which SMMC uses to benchmark its physician contract compensation.
