RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Pacific Foot Care Podiatry Group, Inc. to provide podiatry services for the term of March 1, 2020, through February 28, 2022, in an amount not to exceed $840,000.
body
BACKGROUND:
Podiatry serves as the basis for diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions. Pacific Foot Care Podiatry (Pacific) has provided podiatry services at the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) for many years.
DISCUSSION:
SMMC has a continuing need for podiatry services and Pacific offers SMMC the benefit of an experienced practitioner familiar with the complex nature of the County’s patient base. This agreement will provide for podiatry surgery and clinic services at SMMC and its satellite clinics.
County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.
The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.
It is anticipated that 100% of all podiatry surgical services provided will adhere to the infection control standards as defined by the Joint Commission and Title XXII of the State of California, Code of Regulations, and other applicable standards.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The term of the agreement is March 1, 2020 through February 28, 2022. The amount of the agreement is not to exceed $840,000 for the two-year term. Funds in the amount of $175,000 are included in the SMMC FY 2019-20 Adopted Budget. Funds in the amount of $420,000 will be included in the SMMC FY 2020-21 Recommended Budget. Similar arrangements will be made for future years.
The payment provisions and levels of service in this agreement are essentially the same as the previous agreement.
Expenses at SMMC are covered by fees for services or third-party payors whenever possible. The portion of expenses for services provided to the medically indigent or to those covered by programs that do not meet the full costs of care is covered by the County’s General Fund contribution to SMMC, and is within the existing annual appropriation.
The resolution contains the County’s standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
