BACKGROUND:
Your Board has adopted similar resolutions designating bicycle lanes.

Section 21207 et seq. of the California Vehicle Code and Section 7.80.010 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code provides that local authorities may establish bicycle lanes by resolution or ordinance.

The Department of Public Works (Department) has determined that a bicycle lane along the unincorporated segment of Industrial Road would provide continual access for cyclists for the full-length of Industrial Road between Harbor Boulevard in Belmont and Whipple Avenue in Redwood City. The purpose of the bicycle lane is to allow multimodal transportation opportunities along key corridors within the County.

DISCUSSION:
To provide adequate space for the existing parking spaces, proposed bicycle lanes, and existing travel lanes, the Department is recommending narrowing the existing travel lanes to a minimum width of 10 feet from 12 feet. This change is consistent with the existing 10-foot travel lanes already provided in the San Carlos portion of Industrial Road.

The modification would extend the existing bicycle lanes from the City of San Carlos' city limits on Industrial Road to Harbor Boulevard in Belmont. The Department recommends this improvement to facilitate the safe movement of cars and bicycles along this section of the road.

Property owners on adjacent blocks, extending a minimum of 300 feet from the proposed bicycle lanes were notified of the date and time of your Board's meeting when this item will be considered. The Department did not receive any notices of objections or support, ...
