BACKGROUND:
The need to document crime scenes is a vital part of any comprehensive investigation. The Leica Scanner is a surveying instrument used by Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory staff to scan and photograph images from crime scenes.
These scanners are routinely updated and improved. The scanner that is currently utilized by the Forensic Lab has been in use for over 5 years and in need of replacement. After extensive research, it was determined that the Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner is the appropriate solution for the Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory. The Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner has specific performance points that cannot be matched by any other scanner currently on the market.
The Leica RTC360, features numerous improvements and technology enhancements including the ability to convert laser scans and photographs into 360-degree 3D renderings of crime scenes. From these 3D computer models, accurate measurements can be obtained, evidence interrelationships can be observed, and eye witness statements can be evaluated. Furthermore, the Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner is one of the few devices that produces compelling evidence that is accepted by the courts.
DISCUSSION:
Precision Survey Supply, LLC is the only authorized vendor of the Leica RTC360 Laser Scanner.
