BACKGROUND:
On June 5, 2018, the Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with The Multicultural Institute by Resolution No. 075929 for the term of July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020 in a total amount not to exceed $332,000 to provide street-based outreach employment matching services to day laborers and employers. Through these outreach services, the safety of the public is ensured, the economic concerns of the community are addressed, and self-sufficiency in the community is increased by linking day laborers to employment and vocational services in the community.

The Multicultural Institute was chosen as the vendor that could best provide these services to the Fair Oaks Community after the Human Services Agency conducted a Request for Proposals (RFP) in January of 2018.

DISCUSSION:
For almost 30 years, The Multicultural Institute has been providing street-based community outreach services to day laborers and employers as it has been doing through the current Agreement in the Fair Oaks Community of Redwood City in the past year and a half. Its efforts have significantly improved public relations in the community and linked day laborers with employers, existing training programs, and a variety of social services, including legal, medical, and educational services.
